Hard Work + Time Off = Success

Katelyn works in the automotive industry, so it was a complete surprise during last year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit that her career and hobby would collide head on.

It was a year ago today that Prince Ea, an American rapper and spoken word artist, took the stage during Ford Motor Company’s reveal of the all-new 2020 Explorer to preach about the importance of time off from work.

Watch below:

“Dear America,” he starts off with—a direct call out to the thousands of us in the audience and watching from live streams around the country. You immediately know this is going to be about more than just a new SUV.

Price Ea then drops some astounding data:

  • In 1990, Americans took 20 days of vacation.

  • In 2018, Americans left more than half of their vacation days unused.

Leaving behind half of your vacation days equates to family-time lost, experiences missed. But Ea goes on to explain that this trend is based upon a myth in this country.

Myth: Hard work pays.

Yes, hard work should be praised, he says. Adding that people who take 11 more vacation days are more likely to receive a raise. So the statement that hard work pays is incorrect.

Hard Work + Time Off = Success

Prince Ea urges, before your life flashes before you eyes, ask yourself: Will your movie be worth watching? Will it be filled with scenes looking up at the night sky? Or looking down at your computer, exhausted? Will you regret the stories you never told, the memories that never happened, the past you never explored because you never took the time to enjoy all that you’ve worked so hard for.

Remember: There has never been a deathbed wish to have spent more time in the office.

Life is all about experiences.

Finding that balance between in the office and out of office is why we started Out of Office Adventure in the first place. We wanted to show the importance of work life balance and making the best use of your PTO.

Often times travel bloggers advertise this luxe life abroad, while the rest of us are waking up and working 9-5. It has been our goal to show that you can be two working professionals with demanding jobs and responsibilities and still find time to see the world. And that your time away, will actually be beneficial to your career.

So let’s make the most of our precious time. Because at the end of our lives, it won’t matter how much money we made, hours we worked, or how many times we got Employee of the Month. What will matter is the memories we made and the hours we spent with those we love.

So in the words of Prince Ea:

Forget your New Year’s resolution. Let’s make a new life time resolution to explore, to explore together.

From now on, make a resolution to take your full vacation and be present.

So let’s all make the commitment right now to take the time off, reconnect, and explore.

Cheers to year full of wonder and adventure!
